More Food, Glorious Food

Stir-fried calamari with red peppers

This is one very good reason why I'm having trouble losing weight.

A terrible week. Too much good food, not enough exercise and no weight off.

Next week doesn't look too promising either, as I'm visiting friends who run a restaurant in Portugal. This is going to be very difficult.

Red - starting. Yellow - current. Green - target.

Food, Glorious Food

Now I've got my new Nikon camera working I can not only get pleasure from eating food, but also from photographing it and sharing the pleasure. I'm not normally someone who substitutes visual appearance for flavour, odour and texture, but if you can get all four to harmonise together.... then you surely have reasons to be cheerful.
Hit me with your rhythm stick...

eat me slowly, eat me quick.

Eat me!

Kallo organic rice cake from Holland...

Looking at my snack...
Getting ready to eat...
Eat me!

...red Leicester cheese from England...
EAT ME!

...and organic medjool dates from Israel.
Can't wait any longer!

Pure gluten-free pleasure, with apologies and maximum respect to the late, great Ian Dury.

October 13th 2006

Yo ho, another week done and another 1lb off. Starting to adjust to eating less this week, but due to heavy project demands still did not take enough exercise. As the metabolism slows down I will need to introduce "the feast and famine technique", in order to keep the weight loss going. More on this later.

October 6th 2006

Got my 1lb off this week, although this was 2lb off by mid-week and 1lb back on by the end. Enjoyed some excellent and healthy food this week, but not enough exercise. That's the problem. Without any exercise you really don't need to eat very much at all. But your appetite takes longer to adjust.

Let Them Eat Liver

Nobody but nobody could ignore the comments by Tory shadow Higher Education Minister Boris Johnson yesterday.

Boris is reported in "The Independent" newpaper to have strongly criticised Jamie Oliver's campaign to improve the standard of school dinners on BBC television, telling a fringe political meeting: "If I were in charge, I would get rid of Jamie Oliver and allow people to eat what they like."

Last night, apparently, he repented in the face of public ridicule, saying: "I have been completely misquoted. Jamie Oliver is a national hero. The BBC are completely wrong. What I said was 'let them eat liver and bacon'."

What a great idea. I suggest a small portion of gently panéed lamb's liver in polenta, on a bed of sweet potato purée, accompanied by a feta cheese and olive salad with bacon lardons. Or perhaps that's not what Mr. Pudgyface meant...
