Turkish Delights

Temptation can make life hard for a chap on a diet. On a recent trip to Stoke Newington High Street, I came across this appealing culinary establishment.

Not being a Turkish speaker myself, I assume that the name does not translate as annoyed, bad-tempered, cantankerous, crotchety, fretful, grouchy, grumpy, irascible, petulant, quarrelsome, quick-tempered, ratty, sullen, touchy and waspish... but perhaps is the singular form of the plural testes. Anyone for sweetbread kebabs?

September 29th 2006

Another bad week. Had two restaurant meals during the week which didn't help. Also ate a few too many gluten-free biscuits. They're a killer - 100 calories each! And still drinking too much. Weight stable this week. Next week MUST TRY HARDER!

Good News, Bad News

Good news - got another pound off my weight yesterday... by having a haircut.

Bad news - the next pound means saying goodbye to both ears and half my nose.

September 22nd 2006

Not a good week. Did well some days, but gave in to temptation once or twice too often. Still did not reduce the alcohol level sufficiently and did not get enough exercise. No wonder I only just about managed a 1lb weight reduction.

Aha! So You're Supposed To Exercise, As Well

I just realised this weekend that getting exercise might be a good idea if I am to lose weight. Prior to this discovery I had been sitting at my PC working on my four different blogs, knocking up some food or watching TV. Sunday I went for a walk in the City of London. It was Open London day and I took the opportunity to visit the HQ of Amnesty International and see just how brilliantly they spent their money refurbishing the two former factories that are the base for the new building. Very impressive and very green, especially the lighting, heating, ventilation and other internal systems and the materials used.

Did not get enough exercise walking round one building so did a trip round the remains of London Wall looking at fortifications from Roman times to Tudor times. Haven't done that one in years. Definitely took a pound or two off the tummy.

September 15th 2006

A disastrous week. I should have taken off at least 2lbs this week, but instead my weight has remained steady. I've eaten very sensibly in the past 7 days, but done very little exercise which probably explains it. Must cut the alcohol down as well.

Inspiring Me To Lose Weight...

Inspiring me to lose weight is my son Aidan, a trainee chef. He has already made a huge impact on my eating habits by setting a good example at home. I'm now very into salads, non-fatty meats and sensibly-reduced carbohydrates.

September 8th 2006

A sensible start. Should take off 2-3 lbs next week because water-loss factors always make initial loss greater than the underlying reduction.
